What is a biotech gadget?

Okay, so I got to meditative about what to cover in this article. Something to do with Biotech and perhaps a gadget group of device. If I were to combine Biotech with gadgets, well… what would that look like? I would conceptualize something akin to a glucometer (glucose meter). These are small devices that can be held in one hand used to determine the concentration of glucose sugar found in blood. Diabetes and hypoglycemic patients might use such monitors throughout the day. How the insigne works is a candidate for a separate article.

What is a utensil?
The question I had to stop and ask is what exactly is a Biotech Gadget and other than the technology manifestation of it, how does it relate to Gadgets and Tech? I typically assume of gadgets as handheld devices, but perhaps that is because most gadgets these days have gotten smaller and smaller. It's been the fad for some time. Merriam-Webster's Online Wordbook (MWOD) defines gadget as "an often small robot-like or electronic device with a practical use but often thought of as a novelty." Well, I was approvingly indignant as to think so many of the cherished devices I have come to positive and love (my blue-tooth ear-peace, my Dell Axim, my GPS figure, my computer interfaced Timex Ironman wrist-watch, to name a few) which friends have referred to as gadgets, should be categorized or labeled as a knick-knack. Just kidding (I'm only mildly insulted).
