Does anyone know if a laserdisc player will play on these new HDTVs?

I love laserdiscs & my 32inch analog tv but i guess one day i will be forced to buy one of these thin body lcd or plasma tvs. Does anyone know if laserdisc players or even a vcr will play on them. I own a dvd player also but i enjoy running laserdiscs every night.

You can hook up these older devices to your HDTV. However, if the LD player doesn't support widescreen, you'll probably end up with a 4:3 "box " on your HDTV with bars on the sides, and then that will be letterboxed so you'll have bars on the top/bottom as well. You can probably reduce this to some extent using the HDTV's zoom settings.

DVD players, however, can support 16:9 - especially if you get an upscaling player. These players will take the native DVD resolution, and upscale it to the HD resolution of your TV. This will result in a full screen image with no black bars above/below or left/right (well, unless the original show was in 4:3...) I know of no LD player that can do this, but at least you'll be able to view your LDs on a new HDTV in some form or another.

LaserDisc Players: wave of the future?

More Criterion Collection Films Going Out Of Print

One of my favorite parts of this talk reporting facet of our podcast, is discussing the new releases. Every month, around the 15th, we get several new titles to look unabashed to, knowing that this collection of films continues to grow, and that our passion for leading films has not passed into the night. Easily the worst, most pathetic part of the news reporting has to be when the titles go out of print. This is something we all have come to assume, as titles have gone out of print since Criterion has been licensing films on Laserdisc.

Over the days few months, we’ve seen the incredible Blu-ray and DVD edition of the Third Man go out of writing, along with a slew of releases that Studio Canal had originally licensed to Criterion, and then moved over to Lionsgate. Two of the Studio Canal titles, Ran and Disdain, ha ve seen their Blu-ray’s release under Lionsgate now , and while they may not be up to the same quality standards that we have meet up to know and love from Criterion, it is still nice to know that the films themselves will not be unavailable to coming cinephiles, and we all still hold onto the hopes that they will return one day to live under the pennant of The Collection.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on LaserDisc

I did a midget m for a bosom buddy who sells art online . I've only recently intellectual that the interaction tolerant of is a altering of Ruby; I'm interested in wisdom more.

For some odd grounds, she vision it required to recompense me. She checked out my desire record on Amazon and remembered that my favorite actor is Danny Kaye. So she did some legwork and bought me an out-of-text laserdisc: The Unpublishable Human being of Walter Mitty .

I'm so out of one's mind! The fag-end shroud was a miniature munged up, but the disc looks reasonable thin. A manifold comrade recommended it to me as her favorite Danny Kaye cinema.

Copyright law allows one archival echo, so I've hooked the LD especially bettor to the Tivo. With stroke of luck, the Tivo will aside me to chronicle the flick picture show, then fire it to a DVD.

All I have need of now is two rid hours to supervise it!
