How can I clean a retractable kabuki brush?

I just bought the Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush. I want to clean this brush before I put it on my face....but how do I do it? I'm afraid water will get trapped in the bottom part and start smelling. Is there a good way to clean this brush without ruining it?
